Cook Island Language Week

1. Explain the bell for this week
As you can tell from the title, it is Cook Island language week and because of this my school chose a song that I think spoke the language

2. Where are the Cook Islands? What are the names of the islands?
The Cook Islands are in the South Pacific Ocean and they are called Rarotonga, Pukapuka, Aitutaki, Mangaia, Manihiki, Mitiaro, Mauke, Rakahanga, Atiu, Penrhyn, Suwarrow, Takutea, Manuae and last but not least Palmerston Island

3.  What is the flag of the Cook Islands?

4. What language is spoken in the Cook Islands?
I think they speak Rarotonga and English

Learning about Sir Edmund Hillary

 Good morning, afternoon or evening,

I learnt about Sir Edmund Hillary in hurumanu 1. Like how he was a mountaineer but before that he was a beekeeper, that he learnt his climbing skills in the Southern Alps and many more info but to be honest I knew literally nothing about him for example I didn’t even know he was a someone who climbed to the very top of Mt. Everest.

My job was to create a cloud of words describing him, climbing and some specific words in the resources we had been given and so here is an image of mine:

You’ve made it to the end of the post (but unfortunately I have no prize for you). Thank you for reading this post, do you know anything else about him or did you only learn about him today?

Class Novel Review

1. What is the name of the book we have read as a class and who wrote it?                                             I believe it is called Holes and that the Arthur is Louis Sachar

2. What was the book about?                                                                                                                       A young man who still went to school but had unfortunately been accused of stealing famous shoes and had a choice between jail or 18 months of Camp Green Lake

3. Who was your favourite character and why?                                                                                         If I said someone else than Zero then I would be lying. I don’t know why, I guess it’s because of his personality

4. Did you enjoy the book? Why?                                                                                                 Surprisingly yes I did since it sounds so believable

5. What were the similarities and differences between the book and the movie? (Write one thing that was the same and one thing that was different)                                                                                   When they had talked about the Camp it was how I imagined it and when they described Stanley on the book it was a little different to what he looked like in the movie

6. Did you enjoy the movie? Why?                                                                                                           Yes I did enjoy it too, it was probably because actual people acted the story

7. Would you recommend the book? Who to?                                                                                                I mean I guess so since afterwards you can go and watch the movie version of it and if you’re interested in books that have a little romance then yes this book would be perfect

Blind Taste Tasting

 Aim:

I want to find out how we taste food

Research:

What Are Taste Buds?

10 Fun Facts About Your Tongue and Taste Buds

Method:

Equipment:

  • Unknown food
  • Blind fold
  • A person with a tongue
Instructions:

  1. Take your equipment
  2. Wear your blind fold on
  3. Hold your noise
  4. Place the food on your mouth and taste it
  5. Describe how it taste
  6. Release your noise and describe the flavour
Result:
Food #1
When I ate the food it tasted (with my noise blocked) sweet and crunchy and when I took my hand away from my noise I tasted an apple

Food #2
After I ate it, it felt crunchy too and bitter and when I unblocked my noise, I straight away knew what it tasted like, it tasted like an onion

Food #3
When I ate it, I tasted nothing but was still crunchy however when I took my hand out, I felt like taking it out because it tasted like a raw potato

Food #4
It’s tasted sweet and felt sticky and when I took my hand out it tasted like a raspberry gummy candy

Food #5
This one tasted sweet but a little sour afterwards

Foods #6
This sixth one tasted really sweet and would make sense since it was sugar

Food #7
When I ate it, it tasted salty and unfortunately I was correct

Food #8
As soon as I ate it, I couldn’t handle it already and when I let go I wanted to spit it out since it tasted like baking soda

Food #9
This last one tasted sour and that guessed was a good cause it was sour

Food #10
Never mind this one is the last one and it tasted sour-ish and when I took my hand out it tasted sweet-ish and sour-ish

Conclusion:
I found out that I can taste better when I can breath through my noise and I also learnt that you should never eat these foods in a row since your stomach is going to hurt

Discussion:
When I ate the baking soda I felt it near the back of my mouth.

Term 2 Reflection

 Kia ora,

Term 2 has been amazing but if I talk about it all I might waste half an hour of your life and so I’ll write it down like this:

1. What was a Term 2 highlight for you and why?                                                                                      My highlight of last Term was P.E. because we played volleyball and football for a while (which are my favourite sports)

2. What was a challenge and how did you show resilience?                                                                         I think a challenge that I had showed resilience was that one time were we always used clay but my hands are usually cold so I had to be really patient with myself

3. Which option subjects did you do in Term 2 and what did you learn?                                                 I did digital tech, P.E. Drama and Art and I learnt how to create my own game on one of my class, play hockey, I learnt why some people wear masks on stage and I learnt how to use clay and make a stop motion

4. What goals would you like to set yourself for Term 3?                                                                         Well my first goal I can set myself is to show resilience on some specific subjects I have for this Term

That is it, hope you have or had a great day!

Shaping Up

Welcome,

I can rotate, reflect, translate and enlarge multiple shapes.

In one of my Hurumanu classes, we’ve recently been assigned to enlarge a shape and create our own one to double the size digitally.

The 2 on the top are the original shapes I have copied and enlarged twice the size.

I don’t have a DLO for it but another thing I’ve been taught once more is reflection, translation, enlarging and rotation. I’ve also been learning about vertices, faces and edges of a few shapes (I also don’t have an image or a video of this too).

Thank you so much for reading my post, when was the last time you’ve learnt these things?

Paper Masks

 Hi,

Currently in my drama class, we are making paper mask. My aim for this is to make a mask that looks like the one from A Whisker Away. Something similar to do this:

For me to be able to make this, I needed:

  • 2 Plain white A4 Paper
  • Harder paper
  • Scissor
  • Felt pens
  • Pencils
  • Glue
  • Eraser
I began by sketching the ears and face part on the papers. Then I coloured it in with the chosen felts I borrowed. After that I snipped the pieces off and glued the back of them to the harder(ish) paper.  Once again I had to cut them out. Finally I stuck the pieces together and bended them a little to get the face shape.
At last it was complete,

I know it’s not perfect, but I like it and had enjoyed making it :)
