Those are all the things I learnt about this disaster, I hope you learnt something too! Have you ever rid a train before? Please tell me, Bye!
This week my class and I did some work about the Ballantynes fire (I guess you can call this class history of NZ disasters). After this paragraph you’re currently reading will be the work I did about the topic.

Digital Poster:
Reflection-
- What am I learning?
I am learning about the Ballantynes fire that no one has ever known what caused it
- How does this work show my learning?
This shows my learning because I have written and even made a poster about the information I learnt
- What am I wondering as a result of this learning?
I am wondering what if someone did know what had happened but it’s too tragic to even tell
- Looking back at my predictions, what did I get right, what was different and why?
Well at my first prediction it was kind of obvious that, that happened. Unfortunately for my second prediction, I didn’t get to find out how the fire started but for my third one I got my answer
If I had to be honest, I actually had zero idea of this topic. Like I thought that the Ballantynes was a country or city and I even thought it was in America. Luckily this taught me that it’s a department store in Christchurch. Anyways before you go can I ask, did you learn anything? Thank you for reading this post! See ya’ll next time :)
This week I learnt about space. Although technically I was mainly taught about satellites, however there’s no complaints from me :)
I’ve never really thought of learning about space which means I learnt a lot this week but I’ll only tell you 3 of them-
Mass means the amount of matter that an object contains
A composite is any material that is made by combining 2 other materials
Naomi Altman is the Avionics manager at the Rocket Lab in Auckland Office.
Our next step was to turn these key words..
Satellite
Mass
Law
Ingines
Composite
Launch
Software
Joules
Space
Rutherford
Rocket
Payloads
Fibres
Sideways
Turbopumps
Orbit
Stage
Altitude
Electron
Oxygen
Gravity
Earth
NASA
Azimuth
Direction
… from a book we had to read that was mostly about satellites and turn it into this:
To be honest this was kind of fun. Who knows? I might even consider myself learning more about space. Can you tell me anything you’ve learnt about space in the past? Thanks for keeping up with me, see you all next time!
In a Hurumanu 3, I believe they are teaching my class and I about disasters that have happened in the past.
Our first mission was to look up some specific words that they gave us and then make a kahoot or a crossword to show that we understand what they meant and so here is the link for My Kahoot Project
Thanks for reading this but before you go if you were me, what would you have chosen to do? Take care!
As you can tell from the title, it is Cook Island language week and because of this my school chose a song that I think spoke the language
2. Where are the Cook Islands? What are the names of the islands?
The Cook Islands are in the South Pacific Ocean and they are called Rarotonga, Pukapuka, Aitutaki, Mangaia, Manihiki, Mitiaro, Mauke, Rakahanga, Atiu, Penrhyn, Suwarrow, Takutea, Manuae and last but not least Palmerston Island
I learnt about Sir Edmund Hillary in hurumanu 1. Like how he was a mountaineer but before that he was a beekeeper, that he learnt his climbing skills in the Southern Alps and many more info but to be honest I knew literally nothing about him for example I didn’t even know he was a someone who climbed to the very top of Mt. Everest.
My job was to create a cloud of words describing him, climbing and some specific words in the resources we had been given and so here is an image of mine:
You’ve made it to the end of the post (but unfortunately I have no prize for you). Thank you for reading this post, do you know anything else about him or did you only learn about him today?
